Most commercial kitchen hoods
operate at 100% capacity all day long, even during idle, non-cooking periods.
This costs the U.S. food service industry more than $2 billion in wasted
energy every year. Melink’s Intelli-Hood® Controls are the only
proven solution to this problem. Using a microprocessor and sensors, they reduce
fan speed during idle periods to save both fan energy and conditioned air—and
thousands of dollars per hood in annual energy costs
The Melink
Intelli-Hood® Controls have become the new industry standard for
commercial kitchen ventilation systems. Engineers, consultants and operators are
specifying them on thousands of hoods for both new and existing stores. They can
be installed in any commercial kitchen—from restaurants to supermarkets, hotels,
hospitals, country clubs, convenience stores, schools, nursing homes, theaters,
governmental buildings, and prisons.
The controls are extremely simple to operate. In fact, the only noticeable
difference in kitchens equipped with the controls is a blue keypad on the front
of the hood. At the beginning of each day, the chef or cook simply presses the
light and fan buttons on the keypad—and that’s it! The hood lights turn on and
the fans reach a preset minimum speed of between 10 and 50 percent. When the
cooking applications are turned on, the fan speed increases based on exhaust air
temperature. During actual cooking, the speed increases to 100 percent until
smoke and heat are removed.

Reduced Energy
Costs The
Intelli-Hood® Controls optimize energy efficiency by reducing the
exhaust and make-up fan speeds. Typical annual operating savings are $1,500 to
$5,000 per hood with a payback of one to three years.
Optimum Kitchen
Comfort.
The controls reduce
the supply of hot and humid make-up air during idle cooking periods. They can
also act as an economizer when indoor and outdoor conditions are right for free
cooling. Finally, the controls reduce hood noise in the kitchen by up to 90
percent when the fans slow down.

Improved Fire
Safety The
controls can improve fire safety by monitoring the exhaust air temperature. If
the temperature approaches the fusible link rating of the fire suppression
system, an alarm can sound and/or the cooking appliances be shut down.

Improved Indoor Air
Quality The Intelli-Hood® Controls can also improve indoor air
quality inside a store by monitoring the CO2 levels in the dining area. The
exhaust and outside air quantities can be increased to 100% if the level exceeds
a certain threshold. |
